CHIGURU MANE- An introduction

As a forth year architecture student, the 8th semester deals with the most exciting part of the curriculum and that is, THESIS. As 8th semester students we were allowed to choose our own thesis topics. The topics could be hypothetical or real time topics.

The topic i choose is “Vertical Village”. the topic will concentrate on an idea of how a village can be visualized vertically with the integration of technology. The project deals with integration of housing, commercial spaces like markets with the modern technique of vertical farming which hydroponics and aeroponics to achieve maximum land for farming.

The word village gives us a very horizontal feel of housing and farming spaces for farmers. If we think of these villages in the future, when there will be shortage of land even in the rural areas due to urbanization, my visualization will come into picture. The target group of the project are farmers who are struggling in recent times due to droughts and lack of support from the government.  The idea of the project is to visualize various aspects of rural India, their housing pattern, community spaces and as to how to achieve them vertically in-order to achieve more space for both architecture and agriculture. Architecture can help in intervening the concept in-order to create better living spaces and a better mode of income to farmers who are now moving out of the cities, hunting for jobs and are finding it hard to cope up with the busy city life.

The future blog posts on this blog will deal with the support studies done in order to achieve the same and will also include the design process to achieve the end result.
